kwentong donkey!

Goodness!!! i v'e been working like a donkey for 3 days now. Anything to earn money. We are fixing the courtyard of the school...so, together with 2 more students,we are replanting all the trees in the school's courtyard into pots then bagging all the soil for the garden center to pick up. But we did had fun too...extra money to spend also.

Janah's lunch:

Burrito with beans and cheese
leche flan
tortillo chips
orange juice

A euro a day buys me a presnt for christmas day! I have been saving 1 euro a day since 2 weeks ago. i want a nice pair of shoes!

tatanga tanga

I am home alone waiting for the battery replacement of my laptop!

Why i am so frustrated:

1. Mi espanol es muuy malo!!!

2. How come it takes soo long for the UPS delivery to get here!

3. I want to go shopping...but I lack funds..huhuhu!

Why i am Happy:

  1. They (dell) are replacing my faulty laptop battery.
  2. I earned another 30 euros posting posters.
  3. I just ate a big flaky, chocolate croissant with my Cafe con Leche ala Janah.
  4. Hmmm........ THE future looks promising..........smile,smile,smile!
  5. I found the perfect lotion for this dry cold weather...now, a good hand cream is still in searching.
  6. I just saw a pair of boots that I am planning to buy....
  7. How does christmas in Paris sound?
See, "happy" list still more than "frustrated" list...sooooo i am still good.

I am learnign to be a "bitch" ...not sleeping around okay, but when I walk alone on the streets of BArcelona:

  • I should learn to snub people who approach me and walk fast
  • never ever talk to strangers
  • always be aware of the people around me.... front, back, side, side
  • 2 weeks ago, someone came up to me, pushed me,while talking in spanish...what I did? walked fast and went into the first bar that I saw...then i was safe, but I was so scared.
Lesson learned: janah...wag ka mag mukhang tatanga tanga..naku naku!

Salvador Dali!!

His painting of rocks which reminds people of the Never Ending Story..remember the rock people?

Dali's own version of the Sistine Chapel

This is the installation piece viewed from floor level...spot the difference when viewed at a higher plane

This is the actual painting up close..which does not look like thomas jefferson at all

An installation piece you should view from a higher point of view

There are many small rooms around the museum and it has many funny entrances

He even has installations on the ceiling!!

look at this photo from afar...who does it look like?

his sculptures....

This is a really big piece..amazingly big

close-up shot of his sculptures

The dome on top of the museum, reminds me a little of PAris

I went to the Salvador Dali MUseum. I love him! He is so crazy, his art is really fun. If I have the chance to choose an artist that I can meet,I will choose him!!! I would like to know how his mind works, how he talks and how he reacts to things. I find him so brilliant in a sense that he interacts with people through his artworks. Even if his art is not really what you call interactive art.In other worls "napakakulit ni salvador Dali"

Gaudi

Still playing with exposure, echo walking with her umbrella

Barcelona city

closer view of the city, very breathtaking, too much exposure though

Don't this remind you of the witches' castle in Hansel and Gretel?

Columns are really fascinating!

trying to play with my camera

I like this,it looks eerie

this looks like a painting,it's really fun playing with the exposure

Park Guell, one of the many masterpieces of Gaudi. It was raining again, but we managed to stroll around and enjoyed this huge park. I am not really big fan of Gaudi but I must say that he is a genius. Barcelona is just bursting with "Gaudi" that sometimes it feels too much....yes,sensory overload.

His stuff reminds me of melted candles,I am still awed by these sights, tomorrow i will be going to the DAli museum.

kuro kuro nanaman

Another long weekend is approaching,Thursday - Sunday. It is really amazing how the Spanish people celebrate so many fiesta and all "sorts" of independence day! TheY have 1 month of Holiday for the summer (FOR ALL THE SHOPS,CAFES,RESTOS ETC),they close shop for 4 hours of siesta and they have A LOT of fiestas....to continue..they eat lunch at 2pm and eat supper at 10:30 PM! CRAZY.

So we are planning again,Granada? Costa Brava? Salamnca?...i'll know by next week.

Someone asked me: "Is what you are studying there really essential?"

My answer:

It's not really what i am studying that is important....I consider this the turning point of my life,I have never been so immersed in a vast culture diversity. It is a huge eye opener for me. I am learning a lot in terms of "self' and "the other". I see things in a different light already, stuff that i don't even see before. I am so thankful I am given the chance to experience this.

This is the time for myself, a good one year for self exlporation, realization and preparation for the next chapter......whatever it may be.

Tsinoy: Home but not quite

A part of a collage i am making, after being away from school for a long time,it feels strange to do projects and presentations for a tutor or a class. But being a professional for quite a time gave me an edge. Planning, and the actuality of doing is not very hard anymore. This is part of my "eskenita series"

Just for the fun of it, I made my "identity" with paper mache. This would be my signature til the end of the school year.It looks simple but it's not. This is as big as my head. I have to make a small sculpture in clay then I made a mold in plaster then preparation for the paper mache.

i casted my hands and my feet..this will be part of my main piece

another shot of my slums...it's a big one....but yes, i am having fun.

Time flies fast,it's time for our end of theme presentation.....I am already here for a month. Learning a lot and bursting with ideas as well. Can't wait to nail the next project in MAnila.

let me see....the theme for our presentation is the "Tower of Babel" and my identity. I never really thought much about my "identity".... until now. Funny as it sounds, it seems like i'm just learning about it. Am I more Chinese than Filipino? Can I be called a true blooded "filipino" even if I am raised as a chinese? I find it interesting though, because i realized that you have to be able to know where you came from and what/who your roots are to be able to love and be proud of your heritage and identity.

The title of my work is: Tsinoy in the Philippines; Home, but not quite
